Postgraduate Studies
One of the UNESCO-CWR main objectives is to develop human skills within the water resources community and to ensure that water professionals have the skills, knowledge and capacities to manage water resources and their related infrastructures in order to realize their full potentials and achieve sustainable development.
The M.Sc program at UNESCO-CWR started in 2001 via establishment of three Master Degree programmes (courses and partial fulfillment research) in the following fields:
- Hydrology
- Water Resources Development and Management (WRDM)
- Environmental Engineering

The full M.Sc. program is structured to take two years (24 months). The first year is two semesters 15 weeks each, with at least 15 courses. The second year is dedicated for research work. The outcome of the study is consolidated in a thesis which is submitted as a partial fulfillment of the requirements for the M.Sc. degree.
i- Hydrology Program
This program was established in 2001 to offer unique opportunity for students to enhance their knowledge in the field of water resources. It exposes and introduces the candidates to modern methods and techniques of analysis, synthesis and monitoring and brings them in contact with related technical problems and the ways of dealing with them.
The targeted groups in the hydrology program are civil engineers and related disciplines interested to be specialized in hydrology. The basic requirement for admission is the B.Sc. degree in civil engineering or related disciplines.

ii- Water Resources Development and Management Program
This program was established in 2002 to offer unique opportunity for relevant B.Sc. holders to enhance their knowledge in the field of water resources. It exposes and introduces the candidates to modern methods and techniques of analysis, synthesis and monitoring and brings them in contact with related technical problems and the ways of alleviating or combating them.
The targeted groups in this program are engineers, scientists, agriculture and other related disciplines interested in the field of water resources development and management. The basic requirement is the B.Sc. degree in one of the above stated disciplines or related fields.

iii-Environmental Engineering
The program is established in 2008 to enhance the knowledge in the field environmental engineering topics such as water quality, waste water management, pollution and related subjects.
Msc. Degree by research
The program was established in 2001 and targeted mainly the economist, social specialists, lawyers and decision makers to capture integration of theses sciences in relation to water resources.
Ph.D. Program
The Ph.D. program of the UNESCO-CWR started in the year 2003 in the field of water resources management and IWRM
The following table shows the students registered and graduated in this program during 2001 – 2018
Recent Postgraduate Program
In line with its vision and objectives UNESCO-CWR has, started since 2016 to improve and revitalize the postgraduate programmes, (M.Sc and PhD programs). The M.Sc. program restructuring in sense that to be delivered in three semesters instead of the current program of two semesters plus partial fulfillment research.
The new four M.Sc. programs are:
- Water Resources development and Management (WR).
- Environmental Planning and Management (EM).
- Hydrology and Environmental Engineering (HE).
- Irrigation Engineering (IE).
Study in first two programs started Jan 2018. Total students are enrolled in this program are 26.
The UNESCO CWR also started in Jan 2018 PhD program in Water and Environment Engineering by courses and research. 22 student are enrolled in this program.
